What's New - November 1997

Telecommuting is a worker safety issue.

This may sound like a bizarre idea at first, but give it some thought. Rick Johnson has: "As the potential to telecommute grows - and people are not allowed to telecommute when they could - employers are effectively condemning a certain number of their workers to injury or death from traffic accidents," he reasons.

Furthermore, "If there's a known risk in commuting, and there's a known solution to reduce that risk, and the employer doesn't utilize it, then the employer could conceivably be liable for that risk."

There are some serious implications to Rick's line of thinking - serious enough to warrant being the cover story in the special October/November Telecommute '97 conference edition of Telecommuting Review.

Fleming LTD's webmaster Tom Durkin wrote the intriguing article and editor/publisher Gil Gordon provided a thoughtful critique of the emerging issue.

Look for a guest commentary from Rick Johnson in the coming months. Meanwhile, check out his Telecommuting & Safety Institute.
