The Fredericksburg Telecommuting Centers (in Spotsylvania and Stafford) have been established jointly by local, state and Federal governments to provide office space for employees who would normally commute into Washington, DC.

The Northern Virginia Technology Council is promoting the "ecommute" program to encourage area employers to offer and use telework for their employees.

The Blacksburg Electronic Village, established in 1991, is a demonstration project to show how the Internet can be used to create a "virtual community" to benefit all local residents.
